Empathetic leadership, practised before it counts

You practise listening, reading emotion and responding as a leader in conversation with an AI avatar - in the browser or in VR, with feedback after every attempt.

When this module helps

Someone on your team is struggling and you can tell, but the conversation keeps getting postponed. When it finally happens you are short of time, so you give advice instead of asking questions and the real issue never gets named. Empathy is easy to agree with in a workshop and hard to hold in the room. This module gives you the room - a conversation you can repeat, get wrong and run again, without a real person carrying the cost.

A sample conversation

1

The opening

You open a one-to-one with a team member whose delivery has slipped, without knowing yet what sits behind it.

2

Something surfaces

The avatar mentions pressure outside work and then changes the subject, and you decide whether to follow it or move on.

3

Emotion in the room

Your question lands harder than you expected and the avatar goes quiet, so you choose what to do with the silence.

4

The agreement

You close by naming what changes, what support you offer and when the two of you come back to it.

What you practise

Active listening

You practise asking open questions, paraphrasing and checking what you understood, so the other person finishes their thought before you respond.

Recognising emotion

You practise noticing what the other person feels from their words and their tone, and naming it out loud without judging it or rushing past it.

Holding a pause

Silence in a difficult conversation is uncomfortable. You practise leaving it there instead of filling it with reassurance or an instant solution.

Empathy without losing the message

You practise staying warm and still saying the difficult part, so understanding someone does not turn into withdrawing what needed to be said.

Responding to resistance

The avatar can deny, deflect or push the blame elsewhere. You practise a reply that keeps the conversation open instead of turning it into an argument.

Closing with next steps

You practise ending with a clear agreement: what changes, what support you give and when you return to it. The conversation leads to action, not only relief.

What you get after each conversation

Full transcript

Every line of the conversation is saved, so you can read back what you actually said rather than what you remember saying afterwards.

Rating against criteria

The conversation is assessed against the criteria of this module, among them listening, recognising emotion and the clarity of how you closed.

What to say differently

For the moments that did not land you get a concrete alternative: a different question, a different opening, a different way to name the issue.

What to run next

You get a recommendation for the next scenario, so practice continues where it is still weakest instead of repeating what already works.

Delivery formats

Web simulation

You hold the conversation in a browser, with no headset required. A low-barrier way to try a scenario and to repeat it whenever there is time.

VR simulation

The same scenario in a headset: you stand in the room with the avatar. The higher pressure brings the practice closer to a real conversation.

Blended learning

You practise in simulations between workshop or coaching sessions, and the results of those conversations become material to discuss with a trainer.

Enterprise path

A rollout across the organisation: scenarios adjusted to your context, access for many teams and results that can feed the Digital Twin profile.

Who it is for

Team leaders

You lead people day to day, and the hardest conversations are the ones you keep postponing. Here you rehearse them before they happen for real.

Managers of managers

You coach other leaders on how they talk to their teams. Running the conversation yourself gives you something concrete to model and to discuss.

Healthcare managers

Ward and clinic leads talk to staff under pressure, after an error or at the end of a long shift. You practise those conversations away from the ward.

HR / L&D

You run leadership programmes and need practice between the sessions. The manager view shows who has practised and which modules are complete.
